SHAKUHACHI

The Japanese Bamboo Flute

The Shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese instrument with a history dating back more than 1000 years. It was played by Samurai and Buddhist monks and holds important cultural and spiritual significance in Japan.

At first glance the Shakuhachi seems to be very simple, made up of only a bamboo pipe with 5 finger holes and a blowing edge. However behind this apparent simplicity hides one of the most expressive instruments in the world that is unlike any other flute.

The sound of the Shakuhachi can be meditative and mystical, and in the next moment wild an eccentric. For those who feel called to it, it often becomes a companion for life.
