Learn Shakuhachi
SHAKUHACHI LESSONS
I teach Shakuhachi in person in Berlin, Germany or online via Skype, discord, signal etc..

Learning the Shakuhachi requires consistent practice. It is not an easy instrument to learn, but in turn it is one of the most expressive instruments in the world.

Since the Shakuhachi is such a sensitive instrument, physical and mental tensions are transferred to the sound revealing the inner state of the player .

Whoever wants to seriously learn to play the Shakuhachi will sooner or later have to turn to whats happening on the inside.

As a teacher therefore I do not only aim at developing technical and musical skill but also place particular emphasis on mindfulness, self-connection and right attitude towards practice.
STYLE AND LINEAGE
I am a licensed Jun-Shihan (assitant instructor) under Grandmaster Shawn Tairyu Head, who is a student of Michael Chikuzen Gould, who in turn was taught by Katsuya Yokoyama and Yoshinobu Taniguchi.

In the lessons I teach pieces from different Shakuhachi schools including Kinko Ryu, Icchoken and Dokyoku Chikushinkai. The aim is not to adapt the style of any particular school but for each student to develope a unique voice as a Shakuhachi player that is authentic to them as an individual.

This focus on authenticity and self-expression is in line with the philosophy of legendary Shakuhachi player and Zen-monk Watazumi Doso Roshi.
RANKS UND REPERTOIRE
I teach the following types of music:
Minyo - Japanese Folkmusic
Honkyoku - Traditional Shakuhachi Music
Contemporary Shakuhachi Music

To complete a rank the student needs to work through all the pieces of the respective book. For the Okuden rank in addition a 45-minute recital is required.

In the Shoden (Beginner) level the basic skills of shakuhachi are taught, including breathing, embouchure, japanese notation, rythm, color, tone etc.
